FAQ

Who can cheer with Sirens Cheerleaders?
Everybody is welcome to share our fabulous sport. We train males and females from 18 months to adults.

Are there tryouts?
Team Placements are only compulsory for competitive athletes aged 6 and up. They are held early December. If you cannot attend Team Placements you must submit a video prior to the day to be considered for a competitive squad for the next competition season. There are no Team Placements for recreational and tumbling classes.

What do I wear?
Fitted gym gear and bare feet or clean indoor-only runners are fine when you start. Competitive athletes must wear Sirens gear to competitive squad training: eg. cheer shoes, Sirens t-shirt (included with Annual Registration) and shorts, as well as training bow for females. Please bring a water bottle to every training session. You must not wear jewellery to class. Hair must be tied back unless directed and fingernails must be short. Please help us keep the cheer floor in good condition by changing into your cheer shoes when you are inside the gym.

Can I bring a friend?
Friends are welcome to try too. You will eligible for a $100 recruiting credit on your next term fee if your friend emails us to advise us of this when they first enrol! Please note: credit is only applied after your friend’s term fee is paid.

Will I let the squad down if I miss a session?
Recreational athletes are under no obligation to attend all training sessions however we have strict rules for competitive athlete attendance to ensure our athletes and teams can be the best they can be. – please see the Information Pack.

I’m uncoordinated! Is the choreography hard?
Whatever skill you’re learning, you will get the attention you need to pick up new skills and practice them to perfection. We work from beginner level and offer experienced athletes harder variations.

Can I try before I buy?
You are welcome to try an obligation free session in a recreational class during regular terms! During school holidays we run free ‘try cheerleading’ classes.

What are the start-up costs?
All athletes pay Annual Registration of $60 to cover their training t-shirt and insurance. Competitive athletes need to purchase cheer shoes, shorts, training bow, competitive uniform and, pay competition entry fees and travel expenses. Instalment payments can be arranged for uniforms upon request.

Do I have to compete?
No, you can choose recreational or competitive cheerleading.

Who do I talk to if I have a question or concern?
Please chat with your coach at the gym regarding classes or contact our Admin Officer for administrative enquiries. Note all staff are part time and coaches don’t administer squads – please do not contact them outside training unless you are managing a private class booking at last minute.

Gym owner, Belinda Dawson, can be contacted for any enquiries during business hours sirens.belinda@gmail.com or  0410 561 579.

I want more cheerleading! What can you offer me?
In addition to our timetabled classes, we offer private or small group tuition, birthday parties, hens’ workshops and more – please contact us for details. We are happy to come to your school!

Is it expensive?
We are confident that we provide excellent value for money and offer outstanding tuition in the sport of Cheerleading. Our coaches are highly qualified and experienced and we are the only gym in the ACT to have 5 level 5 credentialed coaches. We avoid the need for several different costumes each year – our uniforms are kept the same for at least two years. You get specialised cheer coaching for less than the cost of a babysitter! If you need help to pay term fees it’s no problem – just contact us to arrange before the term starts. We don’t offer casual classes/fees due to the nature of our sport, with the exception of Open Gym which any athlete can attend casually. Fundraising activities are available for international tours.

How do I get my t-shirt?
T-shirts designs are different every year and we order these in bulk at the beginning of the year and as required through the year. If you join us mid-term you may have to wait a few weeks for your t-shirt as we order as required. Try on a t-shirt at The Cove during the first week of term and let us know your size ASAP so you don’t miss out on orders.

If you have a question not covered here please read our Information Pack or Contact us.
